13 Things by Amy Morin – Chapter 12

“They Don’t Feel the World Owes Them Anything”

Like the featured image quote says, “The world owes you nothing.” Just because life gets tough sometimes, it doesn’t mean that the world is indebted to you. Be grateful for what you have and your situation, and you’ll become mentally strong. I hope you enjoy this post and remember the world was here first on your happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤

Truths of Life (222-223):

  • Life isn’t meant to be fair
  • Your problems aren’t unique
  • You have choices in how you respond to disappointments
  • You aren’t more deserving

“It doesn’t matter what you’re trying to accomplish. It’s all a matter of discipline” (Wilma Rudolph, 227).

Whatever it is you are trying to do, remember that discipline plays a big factor in getting there.

“Increasing your mental strength sometimes requires you to accept what the world gives you without complaining that you deserve better” (228).

What’s Helpful (229):

  • Developing healthy amounts of self-esteem
  • Recognizing areas of your life where you believe you are superior
  • Focusing on what you have to give, rather than what you want to take
  • Giving back to other people in need
  • Behaving like a team player
  • Thinking about other people’s feelings

What’s NOT Helpful (229):

  • Becoming overconfident in yourself and your abilities
  • Insisting you are better than most people at almost everything
  • Keeping score about all the things you think you deserve in life
  • Refusing to give to others because you think you don’t have what you deserve
  • Looking out for what’s best for you all the time
  • Only taking your own feelings into consideration
