Chapter 8: “Easy Mark”
This chapter is about receiving and giving help and solving problems. I hope you enjoy the selected quotes from the chapter and learn something to use on your happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤
“I think about how often we all try to solve problems by doing more of what’s not working-just doing it harder, grinding it out longer. We’ll do anything to avoid the lowest of the low- self-examination.”
Oftentimes, and I’m guilty of this, we just work and work and work and hope that it solves whatever problem it is that we’re struggling with. It’s better to just come to terms with yourself and examine what’s going on in your head and your life than do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.
- “When you judge yourself for needing help, you judge those you are helping. When you attach value to giving help, you attach value to needing help.”
- “The danger of tying your self-worth to being a helper is feeling shame when you have to ask for help.”
- “Offering help is courageous and compassionate, but so is asking for help.”
In summary: don’t be hard on yourself for needing and asking for help because it’s a brave and admirable act whether you’re being the helper or being helped.
“May you always do for others and let others do for you.”
Such a great lyrical quote from an award winning artist to reflect on.
“We need to give and we need to need. This is true at work and at home.”
In any environment, we need to be givers and receivers.
