YAB: Chapter 23

Chapter 23: The Almighty Decision

This chapter is about how we should make decisions and not be indecisive, but how it’s hard not to be! Also discussed are the consequences behind not being decisive and making a “half decision” (not fully committing).

Here are my selected quotes from the chapter:

“When you make a no-nonsense decision, you sign up fully and keep moving toward your goal, regardless of what’s flung in your path” (192).

If you’ve made a decision that’s a long term or big goal, such as, “I’m going to attend graduate school” or “I’m going to work at that huge company,” then you work towards your goal NO MATTER WHAT. You’ve made this decision, now you have to work towards it. You may be rejected from many schools, you may be turned down the first time you interview, but you keep pushing because you’ve made a decision to make your dreams come true.

“So often, we pretend we’ve made a decision, when what we’ve really done is signed up to try until it gets too uncomfortable” (192).

This goes along with the above quote: you don’t just quit when an obstacle is thrown your way, you don’t just STOP when you’re outside your comfort zone or when you fail. But often times, what I’ve just described is EXACTLY what happens. So don’t engage in pretend decision making or give up when the going gets tough.

“If you made the decision that you were going to reach your goals, you would do whatever it took. If you merely wanted to, but hadn’t made the firm decision to, you’d roll over and begin convincing yourself that your life is fine just the way it is” (193).

Don’t cheap yourself out of life or the opportunities in life that could get you to where you want to be and to fulfill your goals!

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” (Winston Churchill, 193).

You have to expect mistakes and failures along the way to reach your goals. However, you can’t let your failures get you down.

“The only failure is quitting. Everything else is just gathering information” (194).

It’s all about perspective and your mindset when it comes to viewing failure. If you view failures as mistakes and weaknesses, your going to stop moving forward. However, if you treat failures as opportunities to grow and learn, and don’t just quit because you failed, then you’ll eventually reach your goals.

“Deciding is freedom. Indecision is torture” (196).

Once you make a decision whole-heartedly, it feels so liberating and free as opposed to pigeon-holing yourself in indecision.

“In order to change your life and start living a new one that you’ve never lived before, your faith in miracles, and yourself, must be greater than your fear” (200).

Decide that you DON’T want to live life fearfully and that you want to change your life for the better by having faith in experiences, opportunities, and in yourself.

I hope you all enjoyed the selected quotes from this chapter. Remember, YOU DECIDE that you want to live a happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤
