YAB: Chapters 7 & 8

Chapters 7 & 8 are entitled “I Know You Are But What Am I?” and “What Are You Doing Here?,” respectively. Both are getting at figuring out who are you and what your purpose is, which is something that everyone struggles with until they find their passion and reason for living. I hope you enjoy the selected quotes from these chapters and reflect upon them on your happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤

Chapter 7: I Know You Are But What Am I?

This quote is actually in all caps in the book! You should only worry about yourself and what YOU think about yourself, because worrying about what others think of you doesn’t allow you to be your true, authentic self.

“You are responsible for what you say and do. You are not responsible for whether or not people freak out about it” (66).

Could you imagine if you HAD to do that!? Unfortunately, it’s something we all do without thinking about it. Don’t worry about other people’s reactions to what you say or do, just take responsibility for yourself and everything else will take care of itself.

“What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them” (67).

This is something I’ve always struggled with. If a situation doesn’t go how I thought it would in my head, I immediately think it’s because of something I did. For example, if someone exhibits a short temper with me, I figure it’s because I said something to set them off, or an action I took made them act out. However, it’s ALWAYS about something going on with THEM, not something YOU did.

“Because if you base your self-worth on what everyone else thinks of you, you hand all your power over to other people and become dependent on a source outside of yourself for validation” (67).

Don’t depend on others to lift you up or to make you feel worthy. You have to find those things in yourself, because you might not always have those other people that you put so much of your worth into.

“If you do the absolute best you possibly can, and come from a place of integrity, then you can be proud of yourself and not give a damn what anyone else thinks” (68).

Again, this is about concerning yourself, your words, and your actions ONLY with you and not others. If you give a full effort and take responsibility for what happens or doesn’t happen, then other people’s opinions are moot.

Chapter 8: What Are You Doing Here?

“Getting clear about what your unique purpose is can be the difference between living a happy, fulfilled life of abundance, choice, and expansiveness or living in the restrictive veal pen of your own indecision and tired old excuses” (71).

You KNOW which life sounds better, so work towards finding your purpose in life and living it greatly!

“When we share what we were brought here to give, we are in alignment with our highest, most powerful selves” (72).

It doesn’t matter what skill or talent you were given, it matters that you SHARE IT with the world. Once you realize that, you’ll feel your best.

“Everyone’s journey is unique, but we’re all trying to get to the same place-the place where we feel happiest, the most alive, and the most like ourselves” (73).

Basically the theme/whole idea behind why I started this blog.

“No matter how clueless you may feel right now, pay attention to suggestions and opportunities that suddenly present themselves” (75).

Constantly be aware of what’s happening in the present, because that’s where these opportunities arise.

“Everything you do along your journey contributes to where you’re going” (76).

Short term goals lead to long term goals which ultimately lead to your dreams.
